Have a look in the stickies at my videos, as I explain why it's important to use the pins.
Hi Chris, AWESOME VIDEO! Didn't realize you were the guy in those videos. Of all the videos and instructionals, yours is the very best and I already watched it again this season to prep myself. Can't believe how clean your outdrive is after all those hours. My boat sits in the salt and boy does my outdrive look rough compared to yours.

Mixed emotions again!!!
It's best to buy and use them especially if your experiencing unusual water flow or heating problems and Chris shows good examples of why it's best to use them. Like
Bt Doctur and myself, many have done it without them but on some occasions I've both read and experienced some weak water flowing issues and resetting the impeller/housing seemed to be the fix.
Thanks for sharing Chris' video link, I couldn't find the sticky with them. You mention weak water flow. Last season my boat was getting hot when on the hose and I couldn't figure out why. It also had a tiny bit of a leak from one of the weep holes. The season before I had rebuild my water pump and then these problems showed up a little while later. I could be wrong, but I think it may have something to do with it. So the outdrive is laid up in my basement and i'm in the process of putting together a pressure tester so I can disassemble it. I might see if some bolts at the store in fit the holes with the head cut off and if not, i'll just buy the legit alignment pins. Fingers crossed this fixes the issues i'm experiencing.
