I changed out my sagging rear motor mounts on my 496 with new ones from merc. The new ones are slightly different then the old style. You don't use the spring washer inside the fiber washer anymore. The new mounts come with a shim to put where the spring washer used to go in case you cannot get it aligned properly without it. My problem is I cannot get it aligned perfectly with or without the shim. It's closer with the shim but it's slightly too high with them. I can get 'ok' witness marks all the way around on my alignment bar but they are very slightly heavier on the top front and bottom back. I have adjusted the front all the way down, up, and everywhere in between. Am I being too picky or am I close enough? The bar will slide in fairly easy but cannot do it with my just my fingers. What am I missing?

After some more adjusting with the shims in I can insert and remove the alignment bar with two fingers. I still have slightly heavier witness marks on the top of the bar but are even. Think it's OK as Is?
