alignment??

i have a 84 bayliner with a volvo 225D (305 chevy) with a bad 280 outdrive winter, cold, water, bad things happen anyway do i need an alignment tool to replace this outdrive? the forks that hold the intermedate housing are still there replaceing everything else checked other links some said yes and some said no thanks for info pb

There are 3 tabs on the engine bellhousing that match up to 3 tabs on the transom shield. The gap between them should be about equal. No real alignment bar like Merc, OMC, or the newer SX style Volvo.
