lookin at the 6. been looking at the 4 stroke but from some reports there are all kinds of problems with them cus of the 1 cylinder disign, now if going to a two cylinder 2 stroke which i heard is a great motor and eliminate those problems that might be the way to go .

I agree, tav. In those small outboards 2 cylinder 2 strokes (particularly Johnson/Evinrude) are much more pleasant to use than the single cylinder 4 strokes. They are much smoother.

However, don't lose sight of these facts: The 4 strokes use much less fuel, don't smoke or smell of outboard oil and pollute a lot less.

Most important, more places every year are banning all carbureted 2 strokes. You might find yourself turned away from your favorite fishing hole.

When they say not more 2 stroke, they are saying no more old school two strokes. The old 2 stokes didn't completely burn the old or the gas. The new 2 strokes inject the fuel/oil mixture into the cylinder and have a complete burn. ETEC is an example of this. ETEC 2 stroke engines can operate in Lake Tahoe, CA/NV. This is one of the most regulated Lakes in the nation.

I know of no DFI 2 strokes under about 25HP, Ebry. That is what Tav wants, a 6hp outboard that is smooth like a 2 stroke twin.

8HP seems to be the smallest twin cylinder 4 stroke available, and even that is carbureted.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. I did not know dfi wasn't developed in smaller 2 stroke engines. Thank you the education.
