I was given a 1957 Johnson seahorse 10hp, the motor is in good condition, but there was no prop. the shaft size is 5/8, pin drive, non thru hub exhaust, I need to know what the best prop for this old motor would be??????
Brochure lists a (9" X 8" (diameter X pitch). That would be a good starting point.
Best way to select a final prop would be to test the 9 X 8.
get the max rpm and speed. You may be able to borrow a shop tach or install a tiny tach. They are reasonable, easy to install and will fit any similar motor without regard to stator poles.A gps is good for speed. If you have a heavy boat or big load you may need a different prop.
