Hi,

I ran into some trouble trying to change the throttle cable on my 72 Johnson Hydro Electric Controls

See diagram: http://www.ishopmarine.com/ishop/js...011~M0017021~M0017023~C0249582&pCode=C0249594

Part #89 is what I need to turn to remove the throttle cable. Do you need a special tool to loosen this or just a realy small allan key? If it is an allan key what size is it?

Thanks,

Fuser

Re: Allan Key to Remove Throttle Cable

It's allen head.
1) What difference does the size make. It takes a microscope to see the size on the side of a small allen wrench. It's nearly impossible.
2) Even if you knew the exact size, why buy just one. Buy a set, cheaper that way and you'll need them. And they're not prohibitively expensive.
3) Using a set, keep trying until you find the one that fits. I don't believe it will be metric.

Go to a hardwrare store or auto parts store and buy a standard(not metric-won't work)allen wrench set. When I replaced the throttle cable on my '72 65hp I think it was either a 1/16 inch or a 5/64 inch wrench that fit that set screw. An allen wrench set should only set you back ~$8-$12(US)
