Almost done, with one part

I am just about finished with my transom, was wondering what everyone reccomends to use for sealing the motor mounts? Also, what should I use for reattaching the deck to the hull, and to seal the rubrail? It looks like originally they used silicone, and maybe the two were stuck together with some epoxy, I dunno. Thanks for all your help. The boat is a '76 17.5' fiberglass bass boat. All I will have left is the floor....WOOHOO!

I'd use 3m 4200 on the motor mount holes. It's a semi-permanent sealant so you can remove the bolts later if you need to. 5200 sealant is permanent and would work for the floor or you could use thickened epoxy. Hopefully you will never need to remove the floor again. The rubrail is a toss up between 4200 and 5200 depending on how permanent you want it to be.

If you are replacing the floor, it needs to be glassed in to the sides and transom, as well as tied to the stringers. Running roving around the perimeter, 6 inches up and 6 inches out, then sheathing it in cloth or at least mat will get it done. The floor should be screwed & glued to the stringers as well. I like a strip of cloth or mat saturated in resin between floor and stringers. You screw it down with 2 inch stainless screws every 6 inches. Then the entire structure, floor, stringers, and transom are tied together, the way it should be, for maximum strength. Anything less gives you a wet noodle of a boat, and potentially dangerous. As far as bonding the upper deck, I used rivets every 6 inches on the lip, and 3M 5200 for sealant. Good luck....
