I met a guy today at the dock that had a 1993 Quality Citation. The engine was a 3.0 and was pouring water out of the back of the motor. It looks as if its were the motor and lower unit bolts up. His temp was ok and if he was running down the lake it was still alright. I told him it looked as if he needed a gasket replacement. If this is true, how hard is it to do. It looks difficult to get to. I told him about iboats.com,but he had no internet. Just trying to help him out. Sorry no other info about boat.

Any idea if its an OMC, Merc or Volvo?
If it's for sure it coming from the engine, it may be like this previous post:
web page

If it's coming from the transom shield area, it could be a ujoint bellows allowing water in through the gimbal bearing.

It was an omc. I looked through the other post. It looks like the first thing he needs to try and see if its a freeze plug. Do you need to remove a cover to see it or them? Could he use a mirror on a long handle?

Ask your friend if the boat was winterized?

If it's leaking from the freeze plug, the only access is to pull the engine and remove the bellhousing.
See the picture in my previous link.

If it is flowing heavy out the flywheel housing it is most likely a freeze plug.

Alright guys I will relay all this to him. Not the kind of news I would want to here just after buying a used boat. I wish he would have test drove and looked for any of these kind of problems before hand. Im thinking that this didnt just happen today. It was his first time out.
