After replacing water pump impeller, I pressure tested gearcase by pumping air into it through the vent screw openning. It held 15psi for 24 hours. So, I think it's fine.

Question: Is vacuum test important? If someone could, please explain why should I do both - vacuum test and pressure test???
Thank you.

Happy 2004 Boating year to all,

Lenny

I would think that pressure test pushs the seals in one direction, the vacuum test pulls the seals in the other direction.

Do both tests Len.Pressure will let you know if it will leak and vacuum will let you know if it will suck up water if it does leak.Charlie

Thanks for the info.
I did pressure test myself.
How do I do vacuume test? Is there a gauge and a vacuume tool to use?

Lenny

Lenny....I got a cheap little auto A/C vacuum tester from NAPA that works just fine. Gauge is built right in. All you need to do is fit a threaded fitting to the hose so it will screw snuggly into the vent hole.
