Alpha 1 Gen 1 Water Pump Problem!

I have twin 1980 485 mercruisers with alpha 1 gen 1 outdrives I'm not sure what the replacement pump is I have ordered a Sierra 18-3320 Pump Housing kit and it did not fit, the lower housing did not fit into the bearing. Any help would be appreciated. I believe it is the Sierra 18-3317 but I want to be positive before I order another pump. :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

1980 is MC-1, not Alpha One. Got serial numbers from the drives? One more question. Does the lower drive-shaft have a pre-load pin in the top of it?

Do you have the pre-load pin on the driveshaft?

I ordered the sierra 18-3320 but the lower half of the housing did not fit into the bearing. I want the correct pump before I have to pay again!

I am unsure if It has a pre loaded pin (how do I check if it does?)

The outdrive serial number is 5719792

Any help would be appreciated.

Also another quick question 1980 485 mercruisers (3.7L) what oil filter fits this engine.

You need the 3317.

All threads about the water pump kit are now merged together.

Also another quick question 1980 485 mercruisers (3.7L) what oil filter fits this engine.

The Original oil filter PN from Merc is 35-802885Q here is every thing that number crosses to now save your self some change.

Fram: PH8873, PH 30, PH 13, PH5 (the ph5 and ph13 have anti drain back valves in the filter good feature for the 470)

The MC-1 has the preload pin. Your good to go with that Sierra 18-3317, as Don confirmed in Post 8.
