Alpha 1 Gen 1 Water Pump

I have a Sea Ray with 5.7l engines and a through hull closed cooling system. The question is does the drive need the water pump?. The line on the gimball houseing is capped off. I have been told the drive pump can be removed.

The drive pump should be allowed to run, just for cooling water to go through the upper gear box of the drive for some cooling.
The hose should be capped to prevent water from entering the boat, but water should still come out of the hose on the drive side.

Ok guess the pump will have to go back in. The mechanic already removed it.
