When I finished my drive reinstall my gasket pertruded out a bit. On the top of the drive a portion of the orange gasket material is showing. Is this a normal occurrence? Do you think it is good to go, or should I reposition it. Or should I replace the gasket all togather

See pics in second post.

Normally the gasket protrudes less than a 1/16". If the orange silicone is showing I doubt that you will get a good seal. The gasket will most likely have to be replaced.
I'm afraid that I couldn't get much from your pictures.

If the gasket wasn't new, replace it... I should not extrude to the point of you seeing the orange silicon.

The gasket was new. I do have another. Do you think I could just reposition the current new gasket, put another new one on? Thanks for your help. I am learning. The pics didn't turn out so good.

Sorry about the poor pics. No power in the barn.

Torqued to 50 ft lb per manual.

I'll be redoing it. Worth the peace of mind.

Do you have the part number of the gasket or gasket set? How long ago did you buy the gasket?

I've been racking my brain as to how the gasket could get out of place. The only thing I can come up with is that the "U" joint assembly damaged the gasket when the drive was being installed.

Is "Fitment" really a word? If so, I need to use it more often....

Fitment IS a real word. It just doesn't mean what you think it does.
"...Gasket Fitting Properly" or the simpler "...Gasket Fit" would have sufficed.

Then again, there is no law against changing the meaning.

I am more mechanical. I will never claim to be book smart. I know book smart geniuses that can't change rear shocks on a truck even after I showed him how once before. So a lot of good that dose.

And guess what, you got my point.

Any way, I am not offended, just had to rant.

No offense taken here either. All fun intended!
I knew exactly what you meant. The word had good fitment in the sentence.
I thought it sounded like a cool word and had to look it up to find the historical meaning.
It is such an archaic word that I vote we need to resurrect it in the mechanical world. ;)
