Hi all,

Today I got a new aluminium anode kit for my 1993 Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive. Although it had all other anodes previously fitted, It never had the trim cylinder ones when I bought the boat.

Now I have these trim anodes, I notice that there are no threads (or evidence of worn / missing threads) in the caps on the end of the cylinders. The diameter of the anode is exactly that of the cylinder cap. This black cap has 4 holes of approx 6mm dia.

Even if these caps did at one time have a thread that was missing, the bolts that came with the anodes are too long, and would bottom out at the bottom of these 4 blind holes before the anode was tightened...

Is there a part missing from the end of my cylinders?

All advice appreciated..

Best regards from UK.

Steve.

The early Gen II drives didn't have drilled holes for installing the anodes. The holes you are looking at are for the spanner wrench that removes the end caps.

Thanks Don.. They do look like holes for a wrench.

I guess my 1993 has the early ones then... Does anyone have a tip for fastening the anodes, or should I just leave them off?

Cheers :)

They only way you could use them would be to replace your cylinders with the later ones. What you can do instead is get a couple of anode "fishes" (that's what they look like). They're attached to the engine block or another ground by some flexible wire. You then drop the two of them overboard on either side of your outdrive when you leave your boat at the end of the day. They're sacrificial, slowly disappearing while protecting your outdrive. Hy
