I have a 94 alpha 1 gen. 2 with a 3.0. I installed new shift cables, but it grinds going into forward or reverse. The RPM's are low, and in the proper range. Are there any tips for adjusting these cables? Does the shift cutout switch assist in entering gears?

Did you adjust the cable per the OEM manual. Please don't say you have a Selock or Clmyers.
If not, here is a link to that section. Give it a try and see how it works.

Also, when you shift into gear, do it briskly. Don't allow time for more than one ratchet If you go real slow, it will click a LOT.

You MUST have the shift interrupt connected on this engine/drive combo or it will absolutely grind into gear...the ignition is actually cut off for a split second to allow the gears to mesh...

Not Exactly............
It's only needed to get it out of gear. The shift dogs are reverse cut and without the engine hesitation from the shift interrupt switch it will be very difficult to get out of gear.
Going in is easy, they just fall in.

I wonder what your definition of grinding is...you will definitely hear a clunk as the dogs engage.

Make sure you put into gear with a quick motion. If you slowly ease it into gear you will definitely hear a grinding noise as the dog teeth are bouncing off of eachother.
