Technically, there is not an "official" gen 1, but in reality, there is. As I understand it, the original Alpha was just that - an Alpha. When they modified it, they called it an Alpha 1, Gen2. (I'm not even sure if the original might have been called Alpha 1).
Anyway, the bottom line is that the Alpha 1, Gen 2 is a different animal than the original, older Alpha model. And you will need to know what you have when you order parts, etc.
