Is it possible to install a Alpha 1 gen2 upper/lower housing unit onto an alpha 1 gen 1 bell housing? Will the rams from a gen1 unit fit the gen2 unit? Are there issues that will be a problem, shift cable, etc?

Thanks
bull**** I have fitted a alpha1 leg to a gen2 bell housing. yes i know you want to do it the other way around. your bigest problem will be geting the oil in the drive you would have to drill and tap the top box and put a plug in or remoteoil filler in to it like what the alph1 has.because the gen2 gets and breaths its oil to a remote tank through a oil passage in the gimble housing so that would mean stripping down the leg to remove the metal. you will have to change the selector shaft in the gimble housing to a gen2 shaft. the shaft that holds the rams to the gimble housing will need to be longer. the input or jack shaft are differant.the gen2 has a longer area that is supported by the gimble bearing and a extra o ring which idont think would be a problem to you. ps is it realy worth the trouble after doing my coversion i would not do it again
Gen 2 to Gen 1. Nope.

The Gen 2 drive is wider and will not fit into the Gen 1 gimbal ring width. It is about 10mm wider than the gimbal ring. Mount nut locations will fit.
gumdoc forget the drilling and taping bit in my last post . it has a oil fill plug in the top box just plug the oil way that meets the gimble housing. ps if its 10mm wider why does the same gasket fit either leg greg
The width is at the slide area that goes between the 2 horns at the lower end of the gimbal ring. The mating face of the upper drive matches the bell housing.

The Gen 2 upper drive housing is slightly wider at that point and has got 2 plastic guards that also add to it.
