I Have a question on the best way to replace an exhaust bellows on a Aplha-1 gen II outdrive?
I have seen some videos using paint stirs to stretch the hose ect.. I already have the boar side fitted.
I am curious if I should fit the drive side first and lower the unit and try fitting it that way?
Anyone have any suggestions?

Put on an exhaust tube, get rid of the bellows. all you need to fit is the boat side.

No, the boat side first is the right way to do it. Yes, you do need to use the installation tool. Go to the 'stickies' at the top of the forums and find the 'home-made tools' section. There are plans and drawings for the bellows expander there. I built it a few months ago. Took a couple of hours and $3.50 worth of material. Bets the he11 out of paying Merc over $100 for the 'genuine' item!!!

And it's not a good idea to go with the tube. There is a reason Merc went back to bellows after running tubes for a very short period of time.

Use the new style exaust tube instead of the bellows. It makes life easy
