alpha 1 help

How do I know what impeller to buy for my alpha 1 (1984 sea ray merc 120 would be alpha 1 right?) In westmarine it shows only one impeller for the alpha 1? is this right?

Also, in the adults section i looked up alpha 1 service manual, and didnt see impeller change listed in maintenence. Am i blind?

You should have the Alpha type, impellers are usually changed every 2 years

The older drives, MR/alpha and older had the 2.5" by 2" wide impeller. Don't forget to replace the housing as well. Get the whole pump kit.

The Gen II had the 4"x 1 " wide impeller.

thanks for the replies... is there a guide for changing the impeller? Im mecahanically inclined, however i know that there are some things that need to be done... IE put into forward gear etc, so id like to have a step by step just in case.

I have changed it on an outboard years ago but dont remember everything... plus that was an outboard. Any one know where a guide is? looked in adults section nothing really

Raw water pump repairs are part of the lower unit repair section.
There is NOT a specific section on how to replace an impeller.

I thought a raw water pump WAS an impeller?

the impeller is part of the pump, you can replace just the impeller or the best way is change the whole pump.

thats what i thought, so wouldnt raw water pump repair section be almost the same as impeller repair? IE taking off lower unit etc
