A friend ask me to install his alpha 1 outdrive but I noticed that the bronze intermediate shift arm was bent. The question is: to replace this shaft do I have to split the lower casing from the upper to replace this? Does anyone have a procedure for this or at least tell me how to do it?

If you mean the part that stays with the upper when you split the drive , yes
drain and split the unit, turn upper unit upside down, remove cotter pin, remove washer, remove shift shoe

When you put it back together you need to make sure the gear housing (lower) is in forward. Make sure the control is in forward. Turn the lower shift shaft all the way clockwise, turn the prop counterclockwise until it locks and bungee it in place. I have found that if I tape the intermediate in place in the bottom of the upper shift shaft it goes easier.

And don't forget the stainless steel washer that sits under the shaft. Easy to do!
