Drained my LU oil as part of my winterization. And to my surprise, the oil game out extremly dark green, almost black. I know I put the right stuff in last March. The boat didn't get much use this year, maybe onlya total of 12 hours over 3 trips - max.

Is this normal?

Tom

Re: Alpha 1 L/U oil

the color i put in was gold, i use penzoil lower unit lube. i do boat in warm waters. I may be wrong, but I always thought that my other outboard stays a nice a pretty yellowish color. But I haven't drained it in a while. My memory is probaly just a little foggy. If you guys say it's cool then I feel a little better.

You should be using Mercury Hi-Performance gear lube.
