I noticed that the fill bottle for the gear oil was empty so i refilled it thinking that the drive might have burped, next day empty again. looked in bottom of hull there was the gear oil. Took outdrive off and all the gear oil was in the driveshaft housing. I was told it was a seal and that it could not be done diy due to something needed pressed in. any thoughts on what part i might need and if there are special tools involved in that. thanks. it is a 1995 4.3 lx

Re: Alpha 1 out drive leak

Go to the adults only sticky (first post in this forum) and download the Merc manual for your outdrive (#14 is the one you want) then look at the procedures for replacing the seal and probably the yoke if it has a deep groove where the seal rides.
It's a common problem, so you aren't one of the few with this happening to them.
