My project boat I am currently working on: 1985 Wellcraft with a 140 Mercruiser and Alpha 1.
I decided to replace the manifold as the old one was "iffy" at best. The one on the engine was an aftermarket - made by Aqua Power. I decided to go with Quicksilver as it was not much more expensive. (By the way - I strongly recommend this for anyone looking to do the same. I am not always a big fan of sticking with OEM... but in this case it was WELL worth it. In addition to the manifold, it came will all the studs, bolts, nuts, etc. The good graphite gaskets. Plus, it came with a new stainless steel fuel line from the pump to the carb. I didn't expect that!).
Here's my problem. I went to install the shift plate and notice I cannot install it the way it had been installed. On the "old" setup, it was simply installed on the manifold using the studs / bolts holding on the manifold. On the new manifold there are some extra bosses in the way. The holes on the plate do not seem to match up in any way to the bosses and the bosses are in the way to use the manifold bolts.
Did I get the wrong manifold? Is there another way / place to install the shift plate? Thoughts?
