Alpha 1 stuck in gear

I have a 1988 4.3 L Mercuiser with a Alpha 1 drive. Just did a carb rebuild got all the setting adjusted. Put her in the water
drove around the lake, went to dock it and the drive was stuck in gear. I had to shut the boat off to put it back to neutral.
I took it out again backing out it stuck in gear again, again I had to shut off the engine to put it back to neutral. Never had a problem with it before. The only adjustment I had to make in the water was to to set the idle screw on the choke cam. All the drive cables when the engine is off seem to be free and work smooth. Any Ideas?

Look at the shift interrupter switch on the shift plate. My guess is one of the wires became disconnected

If you removed the wires on the coil, the wire may not have been put back on
