I'm trying to get a better hole shot out of a 19' searay. I've got a 302 w/351 heads, edelbrock intake, 4 barrel carb and electronic ignition w/hot coil. I've been running an aluminum 14-3/8" X 19" prop. This engine is all tuned-up and running sweet. I believe my problem is just an old heavy boat so when I found a great deal on a ballistic 15" x 18" ss prop at a shop goin out of business I grabed it. My question is about thrust washers. When I took of the old prop, out came this metal/rubber washer lookin thing that had seen better days. The new washer I got is all metal and just rides against the back of the new prop. The old prop flange sat inside the lower unit about 3/8" and had about 1/4" of the flange still showing. The new prop sits right down on the lower unit with no flange showing. Is this ok? If it is making contact, it is very slight. I looked around but all I find are alpha 1 thrust washers (the one I bought), nothing about ones with different thickness. Sorry about the long post but I would hate to screw up something this simple after all the work getting this thing on the water.

Thanks in advance, you guys are the greatest!

As far a I know there is a stainless thrust washer on the alpha gen 1 and a bronze one on the gen 2 . I have used both on my brothers boat and there is a difference the spacing.

Check the Ballistic web site or Overtons----thrust washer needs to match the prop. Should be no contact anywhere.
