Re: Alpha 1 Trim not operating still

Same thing happened to me when I bought my boat last year -- standing on it worked for me. (This is true if you hear the trim motor running, but the outdrive doesn't move. If you don't hear the motor running I would suspect a bad connection).

No luck standing on outdrive, running trim and jumping up and down.
Any other ideas?

Larry, First you need to determine if it is the cylinders or pump. If you loosen the both pressure hoses at the pump, your drive should go down, under its own weight. Now you can run the pump and see if it puts out. Watch out as the oil can squirt out pretty far. After you find out what is bad and repair it, the system is self bleeding. Just fill the resovoir and cycle the drive up and down several times until all the air is out. Refill the resovoir as necessary.

Larry, It always a good idea to store an outdrive in the "down position" to prevent this and possible Bellows damage.

When I lift the drive by hand the cylinders extend. Is it possible it is just low on fluid?
Any other thoughts?

larry check to see if you are pumping oil .remove hoses from pump up and down should squirt oil put rag in front to catch oil. I had to rebuild my pump ,but you may just have a cloged pick up screen,I did. to check pick up screen seperate pump from resevoir you should see two screen filters see if you can blow through them .they may loock ok but see if air passes through. I bought a rebuilding kit for my pump, it included two new screen filters and the o ring that connects the resevoir and the rest of the parts for the pump good luck I have had a similar season of repairs finaly running good but cant find any fish in Smithtown L.I

I hope you do'nt just still have trim locks on the rams. With that out of the way, check that fluid level. Those plastic resivoirs are notorious for cracking and update kits are available. If the resivoir is not leaking stick your finger in there and look at the consistancy of the oil in it.I have seen it ,after this length of storage ,turn to snot, which your pump will not pump. You never know what people have pored into that thing.I 've seen everything from gearoil to suntan lotion.BOTH WORKED FOR AWHILE BTW.
