Quick question - to remove the upper, you just remove the 6 nuts and the 5 washers (leaving the ground plate on), and it should just pull off, right? Any reason it would only come out about 1/2"-3/4" and then stop?

My guess would be stuck in the coupler. maybe try some penetrating lube from behind the engine if you can access it.

How you make out with that trim tab?

How you make out with that trim tab?

It was a nightmare. I tried a torch, cold chisel, air hammer/chisel, hacksaw, and recip saw, all to no avail. I ended up using a series of chisels as wedges, and separated the LU from the upper. In doing so, I had to bust the casing where the other bolt (up behind the trim tab) held the two together. I'll have to have it welded back together.

Once I separated them, the trim tab came out, and I was able to see that the hex key bolt head was stripped, and that's why I couldn't get the bolt out.

I think this is gonna get expensive....

I had the same dang problem...I feel for ya.
I got so mad I beat/broke/chisled the trim from below and still had to cut the hex key hole larger to get something down there to get it out...
