Need to get a little help here solving an easy puzzle:
In impeller replacement kit for Alpha 1 I have a few "extra" :) seals that I can't find place for. There are 2 "O"-rings about 2 inch in diameter and 2 small blue washer look like seals.
Where do they go?

>...2 small blue washer look like seals

Probably quad seals for the oil passage between the lower unit and upper unit. You remove the old seal, and replace it with one new seal. Compare it to the old one to be sure. Make sure the seal doesn't fall out when you reinstall the lower unit.

I'd also recommend following a manual. My Clymer manual has lots of helpful pictures. I'd also recommend being careful on the torquing of the plastic housing cover screws. And I always replace the lower housing as well as the upper housing. It has two driveshaft seals in it that can wear out and groove the driveshaft (very bad).

Steve

Re: Alpha 1 Water pump impeller replacement kit

hello
the new kits come with small orings to fit some of the late style drain plugs. the two blue seals are drain and vent washer for the old style plugs. the square cut orange or black seal is for the passage just aft and to the stbd of the pump for oil from upper to lower. the 3 gaskets with the hook are the ones you will use. you really really need to read the manual before you make a small maintenace operation a major drive unit overhaul. good luck and keep posting

Some of the kits come with an array of gaskets and you have to match up from what you have there already.Expect to have extra parts in the kit.Charlie
