Alpha drive or not?

Was under the impression my drive was an alpha 1 But after reading some posts im not so sure. Its a 1984 conectected to a 5.7 what drive did merc use on that year. The id tag is long gone!

Pictures would be helpful. Alpha one was being used by then, almost sure. Anyone with a little better knowledge want to chime in. But again pics are worth a thousand post here

What make of engine, mercury, omc, Volvo ?

The motor is a merc 5.7. I will try to get picks 2morrow. The outdrive is currently in peaces on my work bench Im in the process of installing a complete seal kit and inspection of every thing.

1984 was the 'R' drive, a revision of the MC-1. Alpha One didn't start until 1986. (1985 was the 'MR')

The id tag might be gone, but where the tag was the drive serial number should be stamped into the metal... See if you can read that...

Nothing disrespectful about it... It's a good drive, like all drives, it's as good as it's maintained.

Define 'Seal kit'....

Transom seal kit, yes.
Top drive shaft housing seal kit, yes.
Lower gear housing seal kit, yes.

Sorry. All three are being replaced. Every seal Oring bellow and hose at the transom and drive im doing including gimble bearing! Thanks
