Alpha drive V/S Bravo

First off what is the difference in the two? Second, how can I tell which one I have? I have an old mercruiser on a 79 mark twain with a 305. Also, how can I see what type of horsepower mine puts out? Thanks,

Depends on your carb. Either you have a 228HP or a 230HP depending on if you have a two or a four barrel carb.<br /><br />If yours is a 1979 model you will have a "R" or pre Alpha drive and not a Alpha or Bravo.<br /><br />
