alpha one a lil too easy???????

i pulld the stern drive off of my transom the other day it was in nutral and it just popped off with out any help is this a good or a bad thing? It was untill i found this site that i found out it's supposed to be in foward

Its no biggie, you can put it in forward before you re-install it.

don't know about good or bad, but it's supposed to be in fwd. for a reason.

that a pic of a 1 drive in neutral. ya can see the shift shafts coupler is turned to port. these two pieces need to slide apart as ya remove the drive. if removed like in the pic. ya can see. the coupler wounldn't slide apart to well. something has to bend for them to come apart.....

i think i'd look close at them two parts to make sure they ain't bent prior to reassembly...

i know i didnt bend anyhting because it just pulled off so easy that nothing could of bent you have to force somthing to bend it

If it came off in neutral with no binding, then I would suspect that someone put the lower and upper together incorrectly. Specifically they forgot the washer under the shift shaft.

that wouldnt explain why it worked and shifted perfectly when i had it in the water
