alpha one drive HELP

I was going to put my lower half of my out drive back on today after I put a new impeller in it and I noticed the seal in the bottom of the upper housing where the drive shaft goes thru to engage the spines was bad, I took it out and now I have a question,

where can I find one and what is it called?

I took it out from the bottom so I know I can put it in from the bottom, has anyone every done this?

What does it seal?

this is the seal where the drive shaft from the lower unit goes up into, It has spines on top of the shaft and the seal is the one pressed into the bottom of the uper half of the out drive.

Has anyone done this?

What year is this "Alpha I" ?
I am assuming you are talking about the seal in the upper gear housing?

PS, Yes, seals have gone bad and been replaced before, and by many people.
