Re: Alpha one exhaust

How strict is the sound laws on your lake? Would clamp on mufflers work or does it need to be super quiet?

Gibson Marine - Performance Marine Mufflers

To help with finding stock mercruiser parts, we will need your engine model and serial number.

Also, do you have an exhaust Y pipe installed already or do you need to install one still? if so, the engine will need to come out or slid over out of the way to gain access for installation.

Also do you have a alpha or bravo drive?

To you, not to anybody else, which is why the water police have asked you to quieten it down...

What you need to convert back to thru-prop depends on what was removed and what was just 'blanked off'. If the exhaust y-pipe is gone, then the engine's got to come out...

If you have a V engine of any kind and want to convert to through the prop exhaust and eliminate the through hull completely you would need all this.

You can also install just the Y pipe and convert to use a system that you can select either through hull or through the prop. Like this CORSA Performance Marine - Exhaust Systems

Re: Alpha one exhaust

The river we normally run on is in Iowa and the dnr is fine with it here but we normally go to the missippi in Minnesota and that's where I have my prob and my exhaust thru hull factory installed no y pipe in the back I'm just wondering if all the alpha lower units are built the same with exhaust parts running threw them

There is nothing changed in the drive or the gimbal housing other than the block off plate in place of the Y pipe.

You're going to need to remove the engine. Take the block off plate out and fit a Y-pipe. Then re-install the engine and fit whatever is missing between the exhaust elbow and the top of the Y-pipe.

As for the exhaust path in the drive, that will still be all intact...

If you supply the serial number of your engine we can give you the part number of the Y-pipe.

This reminds me, on some, "not all" applications calls for the removal of the exhaust bellows or tube when running through hull exhaust to help avoid creating a potential vacuum.

Through The Transom or Hull Exhaust Recommendation,
IMPORTANT: It is recommended that the exhaust bellows on the transom assembly
be removed. This is necessary to avoid creating a vacuum at the exhaust outlet in the
propeller at higher boat speeds. This vacuum could degrade propeller performance
on some boats.

So you may want to double check to see if the boat manufacturer removed the exhaust bellows when new to be on the safe side. This is usually a big block recommendation, but you'll never know until you have a look.

Re: Alpha one exhaust

Thanks for the help guys. I would get the engine serial number but the boat is in storage and wrapped so I will have to wait but if it helps it just a 2000 VIP vixen with 305 2 barrel carb and an alpha drive.

O and also the reason to pull the motor is that just to get access to exhaust area because my engine bay is huge I can get right in the pretty easy.

Re: Alpha one exhaust

To put a Y-pipe on you need to pull the engine, can't be done with it there... Not enough space between the engine sump and the gimbal housing to maneuver the pipe in.
