So here is a little background on my boat. 2005 Four Winns 5.0 MPI with a alpha one gen 2 drive with sea/raw water cooling. Complete drive was replaced by dealer at the beginning of the season. Took boat out one time and all was well. Next trip out we drive up river about 20 min raft up with some friends and hang for a couple hours got to the other side of river, and start to head back and alarms sound indicating engine is over temp. I shut engine down and check for leaks, none found, lift drive and check for a bag or debris, none found. Get towed back and put on trailer. Put muffs on drive and get no flow to engine thermostat housing. Replace thermostat just in case. Pull hoses from risers, power steering/oil cooler flush vigorously no debris found. Disassemble drive find no debris, and impeller looks good, check drive for flow all is well. Put back together, and still no flow on muffs to engine. Pull drive back apart and closely inspect ALL components. Notice a slight gap between impeller and white collar impeller is bonded too. Pull impeller out and impeller freely spins on white collar! MOTHERF$&$!!!! This part doesn't have 3 hours total on it!!!! Looked fine blades were all perfect, glue holding impeller to collar simply failed. I must have atleast 10 hours into finding this problem! Trying to upload a picture but is says file too large. I just hope this helps someone with a similar problem. Check that impeller by pulling it out and INSPECT IT CLOSELY!, no matter how new it is and looks!

For what it is worth I had this happen to me on my engine mounted pump on a Mercruiser a few years ago. Same thing - the impeller looked perfect. It had simply pulled away from the inner hub. And yes, it was a quicksilver brand impeller - so it can happen with any brand. Glad you found it!
