Okay so i did some searching, im 100% noob when it comes to boats, im a car guy. Anway So I picked up this boat that was someones project so im still in the works putting it together but then a few of my friends got to asking me some questions "there boat guys" So here is my question:

The boat is a 1997 Sylvan V196 Barritz that used to have a 305 on it... Well they cracked the block and put a 350 on it and never ran since because they lost intrest in the boat, so when i got it i had to build a new wiring harness ect... but what im wondering is there a diffrence in gear ratios from a 305 and 350 since im pretty positive all parts are interchange able between the motors and i dont want to over rev the outdrive and break it. By doing some reading i figured out it is infact a gen 2 alpha by the way the trim hydraulics are cliped on, looked in the mercrusier service manual and it lists ratios but I still have no idea what mine is. Im prety sure it has a 19 pitch on it as well, not at home to verify. Motor is a crate engine with edlebrock carb, swapped to a 4barrel if that changes anything either? Sorry for the long post and stupid questions. Just want to learn the information and not destroy the boat in the process. Any help is much appreciated!

Re: Alpha One Gen 2 Ratio?

The picture below shows where you find the gear ratio, probably a 1.65 unless it was a 5.0LX, then it would be a 1.50
The 5.7 will need a different prop for sure, and should have a 1.50 gear ratio for best performance.
