Guys. I need to replace my outdrive on a 1992 Starcraft 171. It has a 3.0 mercruiser with the Gen II Alpha One Outdrive. I have a brand new SEI116 drive which replaces the OEM model. I also have a complete installation kit (seals and screws) as well as a new shift cable.

I have a buddy that is a mechanic, automotive not marine. I watched a mechanic take off the old drive and it took him a total of 15 minutes. Is it as easy to put back on? Any tricks? Should I attempt it myself. Truthfully I want to save money and not pay a mechanic to do it if its something i can do myself.

Pleaes post your feedback/comments as I would like to attempt this tomorrow (saturday).

Thanks,

LK

Go to the "Adults Only" sticky at the top of the forum and get the manual for the outdrive. Manual #14 should tell you everything you need to know. How difficult depends on how much you're replacing. All the bellows? gimbal bearing? Check out the manual and if you still have more specific questions, I'm sure the guys on here can help out.
