Alpha one Gen one Upper drive stuck!

Good Day,

I was recently given a 1974 Seaswirl 19' with a 1990 Mercruiser 30.lx motor and Alpha One Gen One outdrive. I believed the motor was stuck as it sat for five years near the ocean. I was able to turn the lower drive assembly in neutral, but the motor would not budge. Put diesel in each cylinder and still no luck. Putting leverage on the flywheel, I notices that the engine would turn just slightly so I figured it could be the outdrive.

Having reviewed several videos on the web and being mechanically inclined, I was able to remove the outdrive with very little problem. Good new, the motor turn over just fine! The bad news is the upper outdrive seems to be frozen. Upon removal, there was virtually no oil in the outdrive. I don't know if the previous owner would have drained it and why?

I tried to remove the upper cover on the outdrive and it is completely frozen in place. Does this cover serve as a race for the upper bearing? Could is be seized in place?

I am trying to determine if it would be worth rebuilding the upper drive or just trying to replace with a good used unit?

Thanks to any that can respond.

Aound me, you can pick up a good used Alpha one for $400 or so.
