When you pull the lower unit to replace the bellows I guess you just never know what you going to run into. Heres my story when pulling the lower unit I notice where all the steering slop was coming from. First the holes in the gimbal ring pivot pins were egg shaped then I found the steering arm "ubolt" to be loose and the pin that holds the steering arm was moving up and down in the gimbal ring, I wasn't able to tighten it enough to stop the movement so it looks as though I'm looking at a new gimbal ring or a rebuilt one .At this point I'm going to put in new hinge pins and buy the kit to access the nuts and bolt on the steering arm tighten everything up as best I can and call it good for the summer. After the boating season I will pull it back apart and work on the gimbal ring I'm thinking I may have the pivot holes line bored and add bushings for the pins to pivot in. Has anybody rebuilt their own ring? any tips or pointers? Oh and of course there was the gimbal bearing it felt as though it had rocks for bearings. The slide hammer works great for getting that out a tip I got from the iboats forum Thanks!
