Alpha One Power Trim Problem

I replaced my trim pump assembly this evening. Reason being, the old one acted up and considering the unit was 21 years old I decided to replace it. Previously when trying to raise the outdrive with the helm switch it would stop after only a few seconds. It would go down fine. My trailer button would work, to bring it up. Not sure why that would work and not the helm? Then I decided to raise and lower again and it completely failed.

So, I installed the new asm today. Powered her up and with the helm switch the unit started to raise, then it stopped just like before. Trailer button again worked. But I stopped before that completely failed again.

I recently had the outdrive serviced. My trim senders were cut and not operational. So I ordered new ones and had them installed. We adjusted them at that time. So I assume thats not the issue. Or could it be?

I am at a loss, not sure what to do or check next? Thanks for any help.

when you adjusted it what was the measurement on the ram when you trimmed up? Sounds like it is working but the limit switch is out of adjustment. Or another thought when the limit switch was replaced were the wires bugged together in the gimble area or were the whole wires fished thru to the engine and plugged in?

IF it goes up and down ok using the trailer button, your problem is all in the limit switch. Probably just out of adjustment, or maybe they forgot to tighten the pivot bolts.

Cooter, The wires were fished all the way through. Not sure on the measurement, I had the run the switch position, my buddy was calling the shots outside the boat while I remained inside. I will ask him.

Don, The strange thing was that both the helm switch and the trailering button both failed the first time after only trying to raise and lower a few times. I will check the pivot bolts this evening.

Thanks for the help guys.

Another question. Could I test wether its a limit switch problem by disconnecting all of the wiring? If they are not connected the unit should raise and lower?? Thanks

Re: Alpha One Power Trim Problem

You need to disconnect the trim limit switch inside the boat. Then jumper the 2 harness wire ends together to complete the circuit.
You have then bypassed the trim limit switch.
