Is there a catch with this or is this a normal price for a sterndrive in the states? I have emailed them asking for the cost of shipping to the UK!
http://www.sterndrive.cc/alpha-one-sterndrive/alphaone.htm
I can understand that, but are the Merc drives really that good?? considering the price as well?

I have had a good trawl through their website and forum, and have managed to find a few posts on other forums which all seem to be positive. I get the impression that the reason they state 100% OEM compatable is that there is quite alot of questions from people regarding mating of upper/lower units from them with old/existing units.
I have had several emails from them now regarding enquirys I have made, they are very helpfull.

"I saw your thread on iboats.com, we have an experience section on our website you may email those people who have posted to inquire about our products also there are some marinas here in the US I can give you phone numbers to for inquries if you'ld like.

Also just for some backround info, the president of our company is also the president of SBT the largest remanufacture of PWC Engines in the world. They have been in business for 6 years and the are registered with the Better Business Bureau in Clearwater. If you'd like to check out their website it is www.sbtontheweb.com. Please email me with any other info you may need.

Thank You,

Ericka Kegg
Sterndrive Engineering Sales Manager"

I think i will give them ago, considering the best deal I can find in the UK is $1400 (£800) for a second hand upper unit which a dealer has rebuilt. The total cost for one of these upper units would be $870 inc shipping.Originally posted by tommays:
it is cheap because it is a copy of a merc drive not a merc i have no idea if it is good or bad
