Alpha one Shift Cable Bellows

I need to replace the shift lever bellows on an Alpha One outdrive. I believe it is a Generation II.
Is it possible to replace this without removing the stern drive? Can I get a wrench in to remove the band clamp?
If I do have to remove the stern drive, what other maintenance items should be done while the unit is off; exhaust bellows, etc.,
Thank you,
Jim

Yes, it's theoretically possible, but it's a real pain to do with the drive on. Taking the drive off is easy to do and makes replacing the bellows much easier, and its only a $7.00 gasket to reinstall. when you replace one bellows you should really replace them all (U-joint and exhaust bellows too), and you should probably do the lower shift cable while you are in there. You should also check the gimbal bearing and alignment and check your U-joints and grease everything up real well.

you must remove the drive to change the shift cable bellows if you leave it hooked up it will kink the cable

I stand corrected - after thinking about it, that makes no sense. You do need to remove the drive. I read somewhere that you can leave the bell housing attached if you want but its easier to remove it and cut the U-joint and exhaust bellows to get it off.

Thank you.
Sounds like I should get a few more parts before I open her up!
Cheers!
