Alpha one shift problem.

I know I know another one.

But this has me baffled. I have read I think every post on the shift system and I understand how it works.

When i idle i can get in and out of gear fine. When i give it any kind of gas it cut off. The lower cable is only a year old.
No water in the gear lube, new bellows as of last year.
New upper shift cable because the other one was worn out.
So my question is what do I do to isolate the problem and how do I test it both on and off land.

Thanks guys

Give some engine and drive stats so we know what you have.I would start by checking the neutral safety switch for adjustment.Charlie

Ayuh,... The only place the throttle cable, 'n shift cables are together is at the Controller,...

I'd start There....

Im pretty sure its not the controller (Just had it apart and it looks good, i also know i put it back together right.). When i shift into forward, or reverse the shift kill switch engages and stays engaged. (not on the center of the groove). Should the roller move when the engine is on the muffs? rf should it only move when there is a load on the prop and gears in the water.

Ayuh,... Only in the water, aka; with load..
And,...
ONLY when comin' Outa gear...

Yer lower cable needs to be changed, it's draggin'...
The switch should Never move goin' Into gear...

Re: Alpha one shift problem.

Well I pulled the out drive just for giggles and the cable is fine moves great. Its the shift shaft in the bell housing that is moving hard. In the cavity that the cable is in I could see that there had been water in there. So now i know the problem water (salt water) got to the shaft and made it hard to shift. So what now? where is the water coming from and how do i fix it?

thanks.

Still not sure what you are working on but this may help (see attached). Change the lower cable now while it is apart if water was in there. Even if you think the cable moves freely I would not trust it to be ok.
