when the day starts out, the boat idle at or around 7500 rpms, and will shift in to gear nicely, after runnign for a while and heating hup it begins to idle near 1000 rpms, and shifts much harder ""klunk"". the motor is a 1990 3.0 mercruiser. This is the same motor that I have been experincing high roms, which btw I have tinkered withthe tach, and now the rpm will only slightly go over 5k, still high, but better than 6k. My question is, is this comon, and I'm correct in assuming that the compresison is changin after the engine warms up?

Thanks,
Thomas

750rpm correct when engine RPM increase there will be a klunk as gear slam into mesh hard on shift dog. Shift sounds right but higher rpm at idle not right.

idle should be adjusted to 750 at idle. but i don't know if that's in gear or not.

Re: alpha one shifting

Idle should be set on the 3.0 to 650-700RPM in foward gear with engine warmed up.

And just a note.......not at the dock, In open water. It does make a difference.
