When I winterized end of last season there was a significant amt of water in my 1992 sterndrive. At that time I just replaced the gearlube and put off the repair.
This boat is in the water all year and was used 6x last year, hopefully more this year.
What should I expect in repair costs and is there one typical seal/gasket that goes.
3 years ago I have a rubber gasket replace that was leaking into the boat, not sure which one that was...thanks

Alpha One sterndrive with water in oil

Sorry if this is a duplicate post, first one disappeared.

When I winterized my 92 4.3 Merc there was a significant amt of water in the lower unit, as the time I drained the gearlube and replace it, waiting until now to deal with the problem.
2-3 years ago had to have a rubber gasket replaced when it was leaking into the boat...I dont remember many details.

Wondering if there is a common seal to replace?
This boat sits in the water all season (lake), I assume it is not a good idea to let this go (I hear laughing).

Is this an easy repair, average cost?

There, I put your posts together so you don't loose them again.

Now, your leak. The only way to find where it is, is to drain the gear lube (remove the drive) and do a pressure and vacuum check to find where your leak is.
There are LOTS of normal places for them to leak. Probably the most common is water in the bellows, or the shift shaft seal. The complete shift shaft bushing assembly was updated, but just changing it because someone else had the problem is a total waste of time.
Cost of repair, well, ask the ones that will be fixing it. Doesn't matter one hill of beans what we say, we can't see it or anything.

So any high-to low estimates on repair,
I am just trying to prepare myself.

You can't give a repair estimate if you don't know what the problem is.

Could be a drain plug gasket that was damaged and reused, or there is water in the bellows and you need new gimbal bearing ujoints, yoke, yoke seal in the drive, bellows, etc.
Just to pull the drive drain it and pressure test replace the drain plug gasket, refill and reinstall it is going to take at least an hour + parts.
IF water in the bellows, better part of a day + parts.
