Hello,
1986 Merc 350/Alpha One. I believe the trim pump is the original oildyne version (SAE J1171 motor with the small black reservoir underneath). I always put the drive pretty much all the way up when the boat is docked. Yesterday I got to the dock and went to put it down and I just got a click from the pump. I pushed the down button a few times, all clicks, then I pushed the trailer button (b/c it was above the limit switch point) and got another click. I went to the pump and cleaned up all the connections and still got just a click for either direction. I then tried to jump the green wire to the positive terminal to get the drive down, and got nothing. I figured it was a bad motor.. I got mad and gave up for about 5 minutes and figured I'd try jumping the green wire one more time and it all of a sudden worked. Then I pushed the up and down button to see if it would work, and it did.
The same thing actually happened to me last week but I figured it wasn't a big deal, but since it happened again, I figured I would ask the experts. Anyone know what is causing the motor to work sometimes and not others? Thanks in advance.
