I have a 1990 Mercruiser 4.3 with and Alpha one drive and during the engine removal for overhaul it was noted that the wires for the trim sensors were shot. I have pulled the engine and I have the out drive fully removed but the top bolt for the retainer for the grommet, where the wiring goes through the hull is near impossible to remove due to clearance. I was thinking about drilling the grommet out from the inside, since the engine is removed and sealing the new wires in place with "marine adhesive".

I would like to know if anyone else has tried this or is there something I am missing to getting this bolt out? I have tried extensions and universals to no avial.

Look forward to your replies.

It is NOT impossible! Quality tools go along way. Don't drill anything, unless ofcourse you just want **** can everything!

Have you looked at a manual?
