I just purchased a Chris Craft Amerosport 284 i rebuilt the 5.7s they will be putting out 300-315 H.P. and not the original 270-285 H.P. engines. Both lower units were removed before i got her. So best out drive to use for getting out of the hole quick, Range, Fuel Consumption and so on.

Volvo DP, not Bravo III, but the Volvo DP.

Alpha One vs. Bravo I/II

Out of those two, The Bravo I. If you want fast out of the hole, you would be playing on a very fine edge of the drive holding together with the Alpha.

Ayuh,... So you've got a motor,..??
What about the Rest of the driveline,..??
The lower unit is but a small piece of the puzzle,...

If the transom assembly, 'n upper drive are still there,...
Ya Gotta match what ya Got....

Re: Alpha One vs. Bravo I/II

Hi Thank you both for the replies, the only equipment left were the old Alpha I Gen II gimbal housings. And they look as if they sat in salt for years. And as i stated both of the 350 S.B. are sitting in the machine shop. They should produce 300-315+ H.P. I have been told i can up grade to the later model drives, that some widening of the transoms existing holes and poss. drill two additional bolt holes would be required. I have to agree with Don it is questionable rather the Alpha I would handle the additional thirty- forty horsepower. Bond i am wondering "why" do i have to match what is there now? What if any Bravo drive will replace the Alpha I add let me use the existing holes i am not going to use these Gimbals anyway as they are no doubt fatigued. My goal here is not to throw good money at this deal and say this should work, and then be dealing with issues down the river. But to spend it right and get the upgrades matched up and enjoy many more years of service. Well now that would be cause for a cold one!! The information you have given is very valuable to me thank you guy's..... Standing By Cat

Ayuh,.... That answers my question....

You can switch to Bravos, or Volvos without cutting or drilling anything...
You need motor mounted raw water pumps, with either choice...
