Alpha One water pump impeller base, stuck solid

I'm replacing the impeller and cannot for the life of me get the base housing out. If previous owner/serviceman used perma seal or similar, I don't think I can get it out without damaging something. I plan on replacing it anyway but I don't want to do greater damage to the casting around it or anything beneath it. I've never pulled this part before. I've tried sliding a puddy knife where I can get it underneath, tried prying it out with screwdrivers (advice from other forum) from each side (yikes). I even backed out the two smaller threaded studs that hold down the upper housing. Any tricks/techniques welcome. I have the starboard lower unit water pump to do after this one.

Yes, I did manage to get the stubborn base out via the two screwdriver prying method a couple of nights ago. I propped the lower unit on my workbench, it was straddled by marine batteries left & right with my starter in the front to keep work stationary. Next, I've got my stbd lower unit to pull its pump over the weekend then I'll start the hunt for the best replacement housing kits to put everthing back together. Thanks Don.
