I own a 1988 Sea Ray Sundancer 268 with the 7.4L engine and a newer Alpha One drive. I have been told to expect problems. Is there any way to extend the drive life? What about Bravo One conversion?

Just what everyone said befor me. Easy on the throttle as the torque is what kills the drives. Go fats guys blew them all up when the prop leaves the water and the throttle remains open. I doubt you will be wave jumping in your Sundancer though. You also could keep your eye out for a Volvo SX drive, they are tougher than the alpha and I think the hole is the same in the transom. Straight up they are not any cheaper thana bravo though, just what ever you run across.
