I have a 1988 Wellcraft 170 with a 4 cyl Mercruiser. Anyway I recently lost power to the prop and discovered that the upper gears in the outdrive are toast. So I found a good used 1986 outdrive from a Baretta boat. It mounts up the same and is in great condition but my issue is that the input shaft is 1" shorter. Will it work or do I have to change the shaft? And is this something I can do myself? Sorry if I don't make sense but I'm a total newbie when it comes to I/O. Thanks
