Hey guys, I’m new here. I bought a maxum 1800sr in august and I’m having some issues with the trim up. I jumped the wires at the transom and I’m getting power to the small post for the up solenoid but no power(big post) or click to the motor side of the solenoid. I rewired to have the fuse in between the connector and the big post instead of how they had it in between the two big post of the solenoids. Does that mean my solenoid is bad if I don’t hear the click? I bypassed the solenoid and it worked.

First issue is that glass 3AG fuse. Glass fuses on boats, bad idea. The ends corrode and stop conducting. Toss it out and get a blade fuse and holder in there. Something like this.

Then make sure you have a CLOSED base fuse (ATC) in there. Most car shops sell the open based fuses, Deadly BAD in a boat! Here's the difference...

If you use an open base fuse (also called ATO) then if there is a short enough to blow the fuse, and it's location is rich with fuel vapour (and the locations of trim pumps usually is) then the next thing you know you're looking down at the planet, and not in a good way!

As I believe this is a really important issue, and the vast majority of boater don't know there's even a difference, I have made a video on it. It's just 1:38, so it's easy to watch... Click -> https://youtu.be/mttV1J-zxh8
